Acupuncture

Acupuncture is offered by both our Naturopathic Doctors as well as our Registered acupuncturist. Often, naturopaths and acupuncturists work alongside each other to provide the best care for their patients. At Crafted Balance, we believe in offering you the most supportive circle of care, and we are eager to collaborate with each other. You can begin your journey with whichever feels right for you. Choosing your provider may depend on your insurance coverage - you can feel free to give us a call to discuss which makes the most sense for your case.

Acupuncture with a registered acupuncturist (R.Ac)

Acupuncture is one of the main treatment modalities used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), originated in China, has a history of over two thousand years. Influenced by ancient Chinese philosophy, culture, science and technology, Chinese medicine uses the theory of Yin and Yang, the 5 elements and Qi to explain the mechanism of balancing the function of the body.

An Acupuncturist has been trained in different Chinese Medicine modalities, such as, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, nutritional therapy and tuina (Chinese massage).  Although acupuncture will usually be the focus of the treatment, any of these modalities may be used depending on your specific condition.

Ontario is one of five provinces in Canada in which Acupuncture is a registered health profession. This means that in order to be able to practice Acupuncture in Ontario, you must complete a specific level of education including hands-on clinical hours and successfully complete a Pan-Canadian regulated board exam. Therefore, when you receive Acupuncture in Ontario, your practitioner has completed all these educational steps and you are protected by these regulations!

Acupuncture with a Naturopathic Doctor

Naturopathic doctors are trained in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine theory throughout their four years in Naturopathic College. They may practice using traditional theory, more musculoskeletal-focused, or a combination of the two, and will tailor their approach to your needs and preferences. When working with a Naturopathic Doctor, they may recommend acupuncture as part of your treatment plan. In some cases, it may make sense to follow this aspect of treatment with our acupuncturist in order to best support you. You can book a meet and greet appointment with one of our Naturopathic Doctors to see if this is the right fit for you.
