A Collaborative Approach to Growing Your Family
Whether you're just beginning to think about having a baby, actively trying to conceive, navigating fertility challenges, or preparing for assisted reproductive treatments, having the right support can make a meaningful difference.
At Crafted Balance, we offer an integrated fertility support team that includes a naturopathic doctor, acupuncturist, and psychotherapist. While each practitioner brings a unique skill set and approach, we work collaboratively to help you feel informed, supported, and cared for throughout your fertility journey. With your consent, our practitioners can communicate about your care, discuss treatment plans, and coordinate recommendations. This allows us to provide a more streamlined experience and ensure that all aspects of your health and wellbeing are being considered.
Fertility Support Tailored to You
Some patients come to us because they're planning ahead and want to optimize their health before trying to conceive, while others have been trying for months or years, have experienced pregnancy loss, or are navigating fertility treatments such as IUI or IVF.
There’s no perfect starting point. Our role is to meet you where you are and help you understand your options, identify potential barriers, and create a plan that feels realistic and supportive.
Naturopathic Medicine and Fertility
Our naturopathic doctor, Dr. Fiona Callender, ND, often serves as the starting point for fertility care.
During your initial assessment, she will take time to understand your health history, menstrual cycles, lifestyle, nutrition, stress levels, previous testing, and fertility goals. She can review existing laboratory work, recommend additional investigations when appropriate, and help identify factors that may be influencing fertility.
Common areas of support include:
Understanding menstrual cycle health and ovulation
Reviewing blood tests and fertility investigations (including ultrasounds)
Nutrition and fertility-focused dietary guidance
Exercise and lifestyle recommendations
Intentional supplementation
Supporting conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid dysfunction, or metabolic concerns
Preparing for IUI or IVF cycles
Advocacy and education so you can make informed decisions about your care
One of the most important parts of our role is helping you understand what your results mean, what your options are, and what steps may be worth considering next.
Psychotherapy and Fertility
Trying to conceive can impact far more than physical health. At Crafted Balance, our psychotherapist, Nicole Armstrong RP, is a pillar in supporting the mental/emotional piece of fertility.
The uncertainty of each cycle, the pressure of decision-making, fertility treatments, pregnancy loss, and changing expectations can all affect emotional wellbeing and relationships.
Our psychotherapist has a focus in fertility and perinatal mental health and provides a supportive space to process the emotional aspects of family building.
Therapy may help with:
Managing anxiety, stress, and uncertainty
Coping with fertility treatment cycles
Navigating pregnancy loss or difficult fertility experiences
Processing changes in identity and future plans
Supporting communication and connection within relationships
Building resilience throughout the conception journey
Fertility care is not only about improving reproductive outcomes, it is also about ensuring you feel supported while moving through the process.
Acupuncture and Fertility
Acupuncture can be a valuable complement to fertility care, whether you're trying to conceive naturally or pursuing assisted reproductive treatments. Our acupuncturist, Nicole Brown, R.Ac has a focus in fertility acupuncture.
Treatment focuses on supporting the body's stress response, promoting healthy circulation, and encouraging overall physiologic balance.
Research suggests acupuncture may be beneficial for fertility, particularly when used alongside assisted reproductive technologies. Many patients also report that acupuncture provides dedicated time for rest, regulation, and stress management during what can often be an emotionally taxing period.
Common goals of fertility-focused acupuncture include:
Supporting the body's stress response system
Promoting blood flow to reproductive organs
Encouraging menstrual cycle regulation
Supporting patients during IVF and IUI cycles
Creating opportunities for nervous system regulation and relaxation
Many patients choose to work with both our naturopathic doctor and acupuncturist, allowing for coordinated care while keeping appointments manageable and aligned with their treatment goals.
Why a Team Approach Matters
Fertility challenges affect multiple aspects of health. Physical factors, lifestyle habits, emotional wellbeing, relationships, and stress all interact in complex ways. By bringing together naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, and psychotherapy, we can provide support that addresses the whole person rather than a single piece of the puzzle. Our collaborative model helps patients feel more informed, more supported, and less alone as they navigate fertility decisions and treatments. No matter where you are in your journey, our team is here to help you take the next step.
