JENNIFER TRUONG, RP (QUALIFYING)
I support adults feeling anxious, stuck, overwhelmed, and disconnected from themselves, the relationships and community. I collaborate with clients experiencing anxiety, familial/relationship conflict, identity/cultural conflict, interpersonal relationships, life transitions, and intergenerational issues. The communities I support are often from immigrant and refugee backgrounds, and from 1st and 2nd generation. With compassion and curiosity, I sit with you to witness and make room for your innermost sensations, thoughts, behaviours, and emotions; and support you through shifting patterns that no longer feel like you. My approach to mental health is holistic and gently invites you to explore the many different parts that make you whole.
My approach to therapy embodies cultural humility. I make room to learn about your connection and understanding of your unique background and identity. Before psychotherapy, I worked in non-profit, community, and health-care settings for 5 to 6 years. It shaped my therapeutic practice as I witnessed the impacts of systemic barriers on a person’s health and well-being. At the heart of my practice is curiosity, collaboration, exploration that centres the client’s unique experience. I believe therapy is a place for you to be vulnerable, self-discover, explore, process, and reflect at your own pace.
I integrate many interventions including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Emotions-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) that aim to unearth the origins of your unique identity and value system. Together, we explore how these origins show up in your nervous system, thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Through this process of compassionate awareness and understanding, we begin to make room for, who you were, who you are, and who you hope to be. I am currently learning and attending clinical supervision for somatic therapy. My training in all areas are always ongoing, as new evidence and information becomes available.
Therapy is a place for you to feel held, self-discover, explore, process, and reflect at your own pace. I believe the therapeutic connection between client and therapist is important for progress within and outside of the walls of therapy. If you are wondering about what therapy may look like together, I welcome you to connect with me for 15-minute free consultation.
A little bit about me!
In my personal time, I find joy in learning about culture, and attend events that celebrate and support our local, diverse community. I am happy to share this in therapy (when asked) as these celebrations can be a source of community and connection for the population I support. In addition to my professional commitments, I enjoy exploring new creative outlets and seek out new experiences. Currently, I engage in fiber and textile arts. I enjoy spending time by the water and hiking in the mountains when I can. I love to learn about languages and culture, and the way they shape our knowledge, reality, and experiences of the world.
