At Crafted Balance, we offer a whole-person, evidence-based approach to pelvic pain. Our Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Fiona Callender ND, is passionate about supporting those navigating endometriosis, painful intercourse, vulvodynia, vaginismus, chronic bladder symptoms, pregnancy-related pelvic pain, and more.

Using naturopathic medicine, pelvic floor therapy, and pain science/education, Dr. Fiona helps her patients better understand their pain, address contributing factors, and build awareness around what works for their bodies.

You deserve more than “everything looks normal”

Pelvic pain is so common, but it’s often difficult to navigate getting support. Many spend years searching for answers, being told that their symptoms are normal, that imaging is clear, or that nothing more can be done. Meanwhile, pain continues to affect relationships, exercise, work, fertility, and quality of life.

Dr. Fiona’s approach combines naturopathic medicine and pelvic floor therapy to help us understand the factors contributing to your symptoms, while supporting your body’s nervous system, resilience and overall health. Together, you will work to understand your pain experience, improve function, and develop a treatment plan that feels realistic, sustainable, and aligned with your goals.

Care is always person-centred, trauma-informed, and collaborative. Whether you've recently developed symptoms or have been living with pain for years, you deserve support that considers the whole picture.

Dr. Fiona Callender, ND’s approach to pelvic pain

Pain is rarely caused by a single factor.

For many people, symptoms are influenced by a combination of tissue changes, inflammation, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, stress/life experiences, nervous system sensitization, previous injuries/infections, hormonal changes and/or lifestyle.

Rather than looking for a single cause, we work together to understand the factors contributing to your unique pain experience and build a plan that takes into account your history, preferences, values and goals.

Your treatment plan may include:

  • Pain science education

  • Nervous system regulation strategies

  • Exercise and movement recommendations

  • Nutritional support

  • Intentional supplementation when appropriate

  • Lifestyle interventions

  • Blood work/Reviewing previous blood work/imaging

  • Support navigating the healthcare system

  • Advocacy for further investigations, imaging, or specialist referrals when indicated

  • Collaborative care with your existing healthcare team

What Is Pelvic Floor Therapy?

Pelvic floor therapy helps us better understand how your muscles, nervous system, breathing patterns, movement habits, and pain experience interact. Treatment may include education, movement strategies, breathing techniques, manual therapy, nervous system regulation, and individualized exercises designed to improve function and reduce symptoms.

An internal pelvic floor assessment can sometimes provide valuable information, but it is never required. Care is always collaborative, consent-based, and trauma-informed. There are always options to gather meaningful information from your symptoms, health history, movement patterns, and external assessment alone. When appropriate, an internal exam often helps patients feel more connected with their bodies - and those internal muscles that they can’t see. Feedback and body awareness are the cornerstones of an internal exam at Crafted Balance.

Dr. Fiona’s goal is never to simply treat the muscles. It is always to help you better understand your body, reduce pain, improve function, and build confidence in working towards your unique goals.
